Omega-3 is the precursor to our endocannabinoids. We find therapeutic cannabinoids in two places; first in the body’s own endocannabinoid system (ECS) , second, phytocannabinoids in the cannabis plant. The phytocannabinoids and the endocannabinoids have the same functions, but are somewhat different in structure.
So it is natural for phytocannabinoids to support the ECS. When the ECS is stressed it cannot cover the demands of the immune system, leading to breakdown and disease. For the body to benefit from phytocannabinoids the ECS must have optimal integrity. The single most important nutrient to provide that integrity is the Omega-3 fatty acid. Omega-3 is the precursor for the body’s synthesis of the endocannabinoids; this is our first line of defense. Omega-3 is also the essential metabolite in the cannabis receptor system. No Omega-3; no receptors. If response to treatment is weak, Omega-3 may be what is needed.
